Indian women’s hockey team to face Japan in the opening
India is the defending champion. India will have a tough test in the opening. They are going to face mighty Japan in the first match. This is the fifth women’s Asian trophy that will take place on Sunday that is on 13th of May 2018.
The vice-captain of the Indian women’s hockey team is Savita. She is eyeing for a strong start along with experienced defender Sunita Lakra. They will be playing against Japan. Japan ranks number 12 in the world. Japan is a challenging team with a good structure of the defense. Previously Japan gave a tough fight to India.
Previous incidence in the women’s Asian Champions Trophy
In the Asian Champions trophy final that took place in the year, 2013 India lost to Japan. Japan beat India in the year 2013 to become the winners of the Asian Champion’s Trophy.
In the year of 2016 Indian women’s hockey team gave a tough fight to Japan. The scoreline was a 2-2 draw. This result took place in the pool stage of the Asian Champion’s Trophy. Japan is a strong team now. They also won against China who was the finalist of the Asian Champions trophy.
Previously Indian women’s hockey team lost to Japan by 2-0 in the Round 3 of the Hockey World League. However, they managed to defeat Japan in the Asia Cup. At that time Japan was the defending champions as well as the host of the Asia Cup.
Goals for this year Women’s Asian Champions Trophy
27-year old Skipper Sunita admits that Japan is always a tough competition. Even it is difficult to break the defence f Japan. But however, they will give all to win this trophy. Recently India opens against Malaysia with a score of 6-0 in the warm-up match. The warm-up match took place this Friday that is on 11th of May.
In the recent Gold Coast Common Wealth Games, India performed well. Indian women’s hockey team is high on confidence now.
According to Sunita, the team wants a good and confident start for the Asian Champion Trophy. India is no longer an underdog. The good warm-up match against Malaysia helped in gaining confidence to the Indian women’s hockey team. So they are looking to start the tournament with a blast.
